Now in its 54th year, The Cork International Choral Festival - April 30th -May 4th 2008 is once again set to welcome choirs from across the world, as thousands of participants bring the city to life over the May bank holiday weekend.

“For five days in May, choirs and visitors from 22 countries will present a programme which represents 1,000 years of choral music” says Festival Director John Fitzpatrick. “This year’s festival couldn’t possibly be more varied. From performances by just one solo singer to performances by a full choir and orchestra; performances in the Concert Hall at the City Hall, to performances in schools, libraries, even at the top of Shandon Steeple at sunrise. From night owls to early birds, traditionalists to modernists, the choral aficionado to the newcomer - there truly is something for everyone.”

The Gala concerts at this year’s Choral Festival reflect this diversity, kicking off in style in City Hall on April 30th at 8pm with the Opening Concert by Danish a cappella jazz ensemble Touché. Recreating awesome swing and tender ballads, Touché’s reputation is fast growing across Europe. Hot & sweet, cool & lyrical, Touché embraces the best of jazz styles with unique trumpet imitations, vocal percussion and smoky voices.
