The Cork Midsummer Festival 2006 got underway on Tuesday last with Emmanuel Jal playing the early gig in the Spiegeltent, with Fred and The Blizzards taking the later slot at 9.30pm.
This year the Spiegeltent is located on Emmet Place, in front of the Opera House. The event was well organised (with more portaloos than last year!), and despite the arcane licensing restrictions a big crowd turned out to dance and jump around for the night. In fact, having seen the enthusiasm and energy of the crowd at the Fred gig, I’m left wondering how it will contrast with Mick Flannery’s more quiet, melancholic performance next Tuesday…
