Another new live music venue for Cork — ‘The Far Side’ is the new name for what used to be the old Marina Bar on Victoria road down the docks (around the corner from The Idle Hour).
In fact, in its latest incarnation it was briefly a Polish bar named Bialo-Czerwoni (I think) after the shared colours of Cork and Poland. Old examiner story here.
Since the rebranded bar has opened, acts to play there have included Ricky and Reuben Lynch, The Barefoot Blues Band and The Roaring Forties - see some photos here on Donal’s blog. The venue will also host some of the events on the Lee Delta Blues festival calendar on the first weekend in June.
The Far Side is marked with a balloon on the Venue map on this site — just drag the map slightly to the left, as the bar is located east of the main cluster of venues in the city centre. Alternatively click on this google maps link and the bar is located somewhere in the middle of that.
Keep an eye on the listing for upcoming gigs at the Far Side. We wish the new management the best of luck with the venue.
