Ear plugs for gig-goers

The music them young folk listen to is fierce loud these days.

Most of you will be familiar with the ringing in your ears you experience after a night in a loud club or at a noisy gig. There has been much debate about the quality of the sound systems in Cork venues, and while many have invested thousands in improving their hardware, after some loud events you can still suffer the effects the next day. You can often spot a few people with earplugs in the audience (or a bit of knotted tissue!), but some may have latched onto an even better idea — specially designed high fidelity ear plugs which claim to protect your hearing without muting or muffling the sound.

From http://blogs.linux.ie/ungod/2005/09/08/er-20-hi-fidelity-earplugs/:

… the ER-20 Hi-Fidelity Earplugs by Etymotic Research … reduce the volume by about 20db but let you hear all the frequencies. This is supposed to be enough to prevent damage to your hearing but still allow you to enjoy the music without any of it being cancelled out.
From what I’ve read about these they are supposed to be very good and for under $12 they’re definitely worth trying.

I’ve thought of getting ear-plugs cos I usually go up front to get some photos at gigs and always get blasted out of it. How were The Editors tonight?

I’ve been using these Epytomic earplugs for a couple of years now, they are the job, if you enjoy live music on a regular basis they are a “must have” in my book.
